Arthur Le Feuvre, Warwick, (firstname.lastname@example.org):
High worm egg counts are still turning up in all sheep production areas.
Most districts are getting rain and more seems to be on the way (see WormBoss News).
This should result in plenty of feed (too rank for some) and plenty of opportunities for worms to wreak havoc on the unwary.
I acknowledge that I sound like a cracked record, but the reality is that producers who do regular Worm Egg Counts (WECs) and know their drench resistance status have more productive sheep and drench less. They don’t have crashes.
With any sort of sheep in good condition worth a lot of dollars, it’s not a gratifying experience to go out one day and find a lot of dead sheep and the rest with tender wool.
Get with it - do regular WECs, 2 yearly drench resistance tests and buy rams selected for resistance to worms!
