Queensland worms, flies and lice update - July 2018

Texas: Noel O’Dempsey, Sheep Veterinary Consultant (odempseyn@gmail.com)

Do you want to know what chemicals are still working effectively on your property for lice and blowflies? A current AWI funded project is looking to establish resistance levels to chemicals across Australia for sheep blowflies and lice. If you do have a few heavily lice infested sheep hiding out in a back paddock and are interested in helping both yourself and the industry, let me know and I will forward the collection protocols (basically, wrap up an infested fleece and post it). Similarly, when it warms and you start to treat a few struck sheep I can forward a package in which to submit the blowfly samples (only involves collecting a few smooth maggots into a container. Who says farming isn’t fun?).
