Queensland worms, flies and lice update - May 2018

Texas: Noel O’Dempsey, Sheep Veterinary Consultant (odempseyn@gmail.com)

For your consideration:

  • How have the increases in lamb, sheep and wool values changed your sheep worm control practices?
  • Has the need for effective monitoring now that returns are up become even more important and a regular part of your management practice?
  • Do you monitor using worm egg counting (WormTest) to know how many worms the sheep are carrying before making a decision to drench or not, or use drench resistance testing to know what drenches are working or are no longer effective before they are used.

Or have you defaulted to drenching more often and using dearer drenches?
